Roles and Responsibilities:
-Supervise and manage the cultivation process of plants, ensuring proper growth conditions such as temperature, humidity, light, and irrigation.
-Implement pest and disease control measures to maintain the health and quality of plants, often using integrated pest management (IPM) techniques.
-Manage day-to-day greenhouse operations including planting, watering, fertilization, pruning, harvesting, and quality control.
-Recruit, train, and manage greenhouse staff, including assigning tasks, scheduling work shifts, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
-Maintain inventory levels of supplies, equipment, and materials required for greenhouse operations. Coordinate with vendors for procurement when needed.
-Oversee maintenance of greenhouse infrastructure, including monitoring and maintenance of heating, cooling, and irrigation systems.
-Keep records of crop growth, yields, and environmental conditions. Analyze data to optimize crop production and identify areas for improvement.
-Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines related to greenhouse operations.
Skills Required:
-Understanding of plant biology, growth cycles, propagation, and cultivation techniques specific to greenhouse environments.
-Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting greenhouse systems such as environmental controls, irrigation, and climate control systems.
-Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage a team and delegate responsibilities.
-Ability to identify issues affecting plant health and growth and implement appropriate solutions.
-Keen observation skills to detect early signs of plant diseases, nutrient deficiencies, or environmental stress.
-Ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions and handle unforeseen challenges in greenhouse operations.
-Effective management of resources, schedules, and inventory within the greenhouse facility.
-Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to greenhouse operations, safety standards, and environmental compliance.
